A few weeks ago, I was talking to my mom, and she mentioned that an electrician was at our house installing a new doorbell. The old doorbell had just been replaced after being in place since 1979, which made me reflect on all the memories associated with it. We’ve heard that bell ring our whole lives whenever someone came to the door. Here’s a short tribute to the fellow who served with all his bells and whistles.

I remembered how the switch for the doorbell was positioned right where someone could easily bump into it, which was a source of amusement for a lot of my friends. They loved ringing it repeatedly, much to the dismay of my grandpa, whose blood pressure would skyrocket! This conversation about the doorbell gave me the chance to recall all the visitors we’ve had over the years. I plan to write a separate blog about how so many visitors at home made our life special as well. In stark contrast to the past, it’s clear how much things have changed. Nowadays, the doorbell seems to be primarily used by people like maids, food and grocery warriors. My wife has even figured out how to identify who’s at the door just by the sound of the doorbell. I’m not quite sure about that, though! Most of the time, I just use my keys to let myself in, giving the doorbell a break so my wife doesn’t have to rely on her keen senses. There’s a statistic indicating that 85% of teenagers don’t ring the doorbell; instead, they text or call to let someone know they are outside. I have observed this myself. After sending the text, I often notice that the door is left open, allowing them to come inside without bothering to ring the bell.
I realised that the last time I posted on my blog was March 23rd, and I had taken a break for about 70 days. Sometimes, it’s beneficial to pause and reflect on what comes next. I noticed that I felt like I was missing something every weekend, which prompted me to take a step back. My conversation with my mom about this really resonated with me, encouraging me to restart my blogging journey and get back on track. From now on, I will make it a point to ring my doorbell every time I publish a new post.
