Here is what I have planned to do this year. I believe it is important to put it out, to bring accountability to my set of 5 resolutions I have set out to in 2024:-
- Reading and Learning from Books
I am on the right track as I have selected a few books to “read, reflect ( through writing), integrate, and repeat.” This is a new idea that I picked up from Anthony Vicino. I had seen this video multiple times and as a first step picked up “The Almanack of Naval Ravikant” to take it through this cycle. I have noticed that for the first time in my life, I am sitting in a room full of books.

2. Walking and Exercise
Another important activity that I am obsessed with daily is walking. Exercise still awaits. Having got a meniscus tear, my running had taken a back seat for some time. However, the daily schedule of walking is ongoing and that does make a big difference to my daily mood and activities thereafter. Instead of doing it all at once, I have figured out a way to keep it going all day and then take a look at the app to satisfy my targets. Walking outside in the morning with your earphones and listening to a podcast has been my routine and it is a blessing.

3. Intermittent Fasting and cheat meals
Interesting combination so to speak. Having understood some of the benefits of intermittent fasting over the years I had successfully carried out IF at regular intervals. Last week I had a big escalation at the customer end and I must thank Intermittent fasting for keeping me centered and presenting myself with the right frame of mind. I had planned cheat meals as well in the last 20 days and that was in perfect harmony as a combination.

4. Randomness and Flexibility as per my value system
The other day I was initially not interested in going with my family to watch a dance drama. I was wondering whether I will understand anything. My wife then asked me, ” You keep talking about flexibility what happened?” I ended up watching the 2 hrs of dance drama with lot of questions going un answered as the entire play was in Sanskrit. My elder daughter was kind enough to translate some of the parts and we finally picked up from them after the show. On the 15th of Jan I had this idea of watching the new Mohanlal movie Neru , thanks to my mother for generating interest in me. I checked with my wife and we decided to go for the movie in a jiffy.

5. Social Media and Social Equity
If there is one thing which I am serious about this year, it is about meeting more friends and being social. Apart from that another area which is of equal importance is doom-scrolling on social media to which I am applying brakes. Last year I noticed that during travel and when I get tired I used to check for news and it used to get me into a spiral loop. Understanding this picking myself up connecting more with real people, and having conversations are some of the main aims this year. In the last two weeks, I had the opportunity to have three such occasions to mingle with the crowd and have a good time. Enjoyed the vibes and there was a feel-good factor.

So the above 5 are my top resolutions for the year. I had in the past few years noticed that I would start with all the focus plans and somewhere down the line I faltered and lost track. In order to avoid that this time, I thought of putting this list in public and making myself more accountable for the same. After all, as they say, life happens and we go with the ebb and flow of day-to-day life.
As I noticed in an article, whether it’s to lose weight, get out of debt, pursue a coveted hobby, socialize more, or something else, for many, making New Year’s resolutions is part of the festivities. And with so many people committing to goals for the New Year, the hope and optimism that change can happen is in the air. The reality is, however, that over 90% of New Year’s resolutions will be abandoned within just a few weeks.
Did you know that there is a date when most of the resolutions of the year are ditched?
