RICH SOULFUL SUNDAY

In the flight, I was browsing through the inhouse magazine of an airline and it featured 4 leading ladies. Ruth Handler (Barbie girl), Oprah Winfrey ( Talk show fame), Coco Chanel (Leading fashion designer) and Moumita Dutta ( Mission Mangal scientist).

All these leading ladies had one thing in common ” Determination to do something big” for the world. They all conquered against all odds and made it iconic.

Almost every girl has a barbie girl in her closet. I remember when we were in Germany and Italy how many Barbie dolls we got as gifts and we purchased. Ruth’s Handler’s intention was to put smiles on every child’s face and facilitate their dreams.

Oprah Winfrey has been a powerful role model for women and I started listening to podcasts and talks shows after seeing her interview some of the great minds in her Super Soul series. That led me to hear so many podcasts daily. According to Oprah, ” Time is not put to its best use focusing on where we haven’t been, what we need to do. Her thing is: Do it, you want to see changes? Then go out there and make those changes yourself“. I truly believe in the maxim of surrounding your self with people who can help you get better.

                                                                                                                                                                     I couldn’t pronounce her second name Chanel correctly. My daughter corrected me.  I understood from that short snippet about how her innovation on designer clothes elicited a new kind of attention. She was the greatest trendsetter of her time and her clothes had come to represent a new kind of woman – confident, provocative and ever so slightly rebellious. Now I understood from where my elder daughter was getting her inspiration. We as parents need to “channel ourselves to understand the Chanel way“.  Over the last year, I have also changed my cupboard and brought some trendy clothes. There was a time when I used to find checked shirts too colorful. Last Sunday when my daughter asked me to wear that red T-Shirt so that it goes with the flow of the dress, I knew I had changed a lot when it came down to personal grooming.

                                                                                                                                                                    Moumita Dutta is an inspiration for women to look at space as a career. In her own words, “ Girls have equal right to dream big and achieve their goals. Come along to join space science to make our nation second to none.” I have a big fascination with space as every time I go back to my home town I get a chance to discuss with my mother or my relatives about the latest happenings in space. In my last interaction with one of my relatives, I promised him to send a copy of Elon Musks’ book and then we couriered the same couple of days later.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            As I was in the midst of this blog my younger daughter, who was studying for her EVS exam, came up to me and asked, “ Can you explain to me how is the shape of the heart inside our body”? Without wasting my intellect ( not really) I asked her to open google and type those words. She typed the above line and she saw a video and images which gave her confirmation that it is just like the shape of heart she had known. She left my room happy getting that confirmation.

Today morning, as I was waiting for my younger daughter and her friend to come out of the dance class, I saw the women’s day wishes were being exchanged in some of the WhatsApp groups. A few of my friends reached out to give a surprise party for their wives. I had to excuse myself for the exam season and wished them a great time. Then came an interesting song on FM radio station which made me think and agree that it is a perfect line to share with everyone on this women’s day.

As I heard the song, ” Give your heart a break” it made me think of taking time out to pay my respect, care, and affection to all the women who had made a big difference in my life.  They have been serving all along with their life with their heart. On this woman’s day, I wish them to become their best versions and serve a higher purpose.

I am reminded again of that song, ” Today give your hear a break and let the rest of the world do their best to give you a vacation”.
